An opportunity to face the challenges that climate change will bring, and plan together as a community

Welcome to the Climate Action Marple website, the new name for MESS

For more information about the origins of CAM and why we have changed our name, go to the About page

CAM meet monthly to discuss issues and plan events, normally at 7.00pm on the second Monday in the month at the Seed Café at Marple Methodist Church, although for those who cannot come in person we usually provide a Zoom link. Please email us for the link if you wish to join that way.

We also have an informal “drop-in” meeting in the Seed Café at Marple Methodist Church every Thursday between 10.00am and 1.00pm.  Please feel free to drop in and meet some of us.

If you have a passion about the environment and would like to join a group who want to make our local area, our country and our world a better place you would very welcome.

We are in the process of making a major upgrade to our website, so please bear with us as we do so.

We have no corporate sponsors and rely entirely on grants and donations from members of the public.  Please support us by making a donation.
Angela Hayes, a CAM  member,  has produced this eco video as a warning to us all.

Eating To Save The Planet – a Flexitarian Approach

Several CAM members have contributed to this recipe book which embraces what CAM promotes ie purchasing locally and in season as well as reducing the amount of meat you eat.

Please click the image to download the book for your own personal use.

N.B. The book was written before we changed our name so it does refer to MESS, not CAM.

CAM Services

CAM has a ‘Thermal Imaging Camera’ which is used by members on invitation to go into homes of the public to discover heat loss and help suggest solutions.  We also have School Boxes containing items to educate the children. These are borrowed on a rota basis by local schools.

Community Orchard

With Stockport Council’s encouragement MESS planted the Community Orchard on the Recreation Ground, Marple in 2017. There are over 65 fruit trees of all varieties which are looked after by a small group of volunteers.

Incredible Edible

A small ‘Incredible Edible’ group was formed to construct and look after the planters containing small vegetables and herbs on Marple Precinct.  The produce is free for passersby to pick.

Events

Over the years MESS has held many information days such as September 2019 when we held a very successful ‘CLIMATE CRISIS IN MARPLE’ day.  Our latest event was on Sunday 23rd April 2023 at Marple Hall School.

Our next meeting is on Monday 13th May 2024 at 7.30 pm at the Seed Cafe, Marple Methodist Church.

New members very welcome.
A Zoom link will be made available if you can’t attend in person. If you need any more information please email [email protected]
